The Chicago Bulls Business Strategy and Analytics Department is a team of strategic critical problem solvers who champion a continuous improvement mentality across the organization. The Analytics Engineer will be responsible for understanding and delivering on the data needs of our organization, as well as finding opportunities for optimization through automation and integration.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end development and optimization of ETL/ELT pipelines, demonstrating extensive experience in data orchestration and transformation
  • Improve automation and integrations between systems to simplify manual processes and reduce data silos
  • Build and standardize queries and data sources to empower other team members to quickly draw insights and maintain consistent metrics
  • Establish rules and processes to standardize data collection and structures and ensure accuracy, integrity, and completeness of data
  • Proactively monitor the performance of the analytics stack, identifying areas for improvement and implementing optimizations to enhance overall system efficiency
  • Partner with multi-functional business partners to acquire a comprehensive understanding of each team’s data needs and translate into infrastructure and tooling that enables a data-driven culture
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of data models, transformations, and workflows
  • Manage version control and code deployment processes to ensure code integrity, collaboration, and reproducibility across the team
  • Develop and nurture relationships with data-related vendors, including but not limited to ETL tools, cloud service providers, and data enrichment services.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and new technologies within the Data & Analytics Engineering landscape to assess potential partnerships and opportunities for evolution of our tech stack.
  • Build and maintain rich interactive visualizations through data interpretation and analysis integrating various reporting components from multiple data sources

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a consistent track record of professional and personal achievement
  • 3+ years’ experience working in data-centric roles
  • Ability to compose complex SQL and hands-on experience with data warehouse management
  • Professional experience in working with modern data warehouse technologies, particularly Snowflake
  • Strong expertise in dbt (Data Build Tool) for data transformation pipelines, modeling, and automating checks for data quality
  • Experience working with data ingestion and reverse ETL tools such as Fivetran, Matillion, Census, and Hightouch
  • Experience with developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Github Actions or Bitbucket Pipelines preferred)
  • Experience crafting effective charts, graphs, and visualizations in a business intelligence tool (Tableau preferred)
  • Proficiency in Python, particularly with a focus in data transformation, analysis, and API development
  • This role is based in Chicago. Some workplace flexibility is available but fully remote candidates will not be considered
