Cybersyn is a new DaaS (data-as-a-service) company, backed by Sequoia, Coatue, and Snowflake. Our mission is to make the world's economic data transparent to governments, businesses, and entrepreneurs and enable a new generation of decision makers. We acquire unique data assets (companies, licenses, data rights, consumer dividends) and build derived products on top of that, focusing on measuring what consumers and businesses are spending money on. You can think of Cybersyn as a cross between an investment firm and a technology company focused on data: if we are successful, we will disrupt the traditional market intelligence space. The reward is great - if we are successful, we can disrupt an industry worth $100Bs and build SimCity for the real world.

We have already released a fair number of public datasets that we have cleaned, restructured and made joinable on the Snowflake Marketplace.

  • See our current data here.
  • Demo our data on our Streamlit App here.

Who you are:

  • Pragmatic and commercially minded analytics engineer, interested in being part of the core development of our data products
  • An expert in dbt and SQL. Experience in Python (or R) is ideal as well. You have worked with cloud data warehouses before (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, etc.)
  • Experience working with multiple (external) datasets, cleaning, joining, and munging data; experience working with public data sources (ie. US Census, ACS Survey) is a huge plus
  • Articulate and scrappy; must be willing to wear multiple hats and change context frequently
  • You enjoy writing code as well as helping others write good code

What you will do:

  • Lead the design and construction of data pipelines and data aggregation layers in dbt and Snowflake using SQL and Python
  • Document and enforce best dbt practices. Conduct code reviews and point out opportunities to use advanced dbt features (macros, incremental jobs, etc.) to keep code DRY and minimize compute usage
  • Define requirements for data infrastructure and engineering teams to build data integrations and infrastructure that can make Analytics Engineers more efficient
  • Communicate with Product and Streamlit teams on pipeline design, data quality, and data documentation and use cases
  • Work closely with product, marketing, engineering to support GTM efforts such as demos, data product details and use cases
  • Be the dbt expert at Cybersyn

What you get out of it:

  • Cybersyn is a data company; so as an Analytics Engineer Lead, you will be “front-office” in helping build products that generate revenue directly
  • This position is perfect for someone who is extremely talented as an IC and looking for a technical leadership role that eventually could include people management as well
  • Ability to shape Cybersyn’s initial product, technology decisions and ownership of statistical methodologies and libraries
  • Access to some of the most interesting economic data in the world, including real-time spending, transaction, clickstream, data from both third-party and first-party sources. Much of our data is not available to any other third parties
  • Fast moving culture, lots of responsibility and autonomy from day 1

Compensation: $150K – $300K
