The Principal Analytics Engineer is focused on bringing robust, efficient, and integrated data models and products to life. This role sit at the intersection of business teams, Data Services, Data Analysts, and Data Engineering. Analytics Engineers speak the language of business teams and technical teams, successful Analytics Engineers blend business acumen with technical expertise and transition between business strategy and data development. The Principal Analytics Engineer role is critical to support the growing Data Program because it helps glue together the business-facing Data Analyst roles with the technology-focused Data Engineering roles by creating data solutions for both roles.

Responsibilities

  • Willingness to experiment and to confront the hardest or most complex problems
  • Expertise in designing and developing distributed data pipelines using modern data technologies on large scale data sets, demonstrated with years of proven experience
  • Interface with Senior leadership to design, plan, and implement major strategic data projects and initiatives, spanning 6 months or more, including full scale Data Lake implementations
  • Sets data mesh and architecture principles, standards, guidelines, and technical direction for data and cross-functional projects
  • Coordinates the technical effort during design and development, resolves technical disagreements
  • Provide mentorship to help team members grow their technical and business capabilities
  • Attain a measurable positive impact on the performance of multiple team members and teams
  • Implement the DataOps philosophy in everything you do
  • Has experience with various streaming data concepts, such as Kafka
  • Represent OCLC and its values in public communication around broad initiatives, specific projects, and community contributions
  • Regularly participates in the Data Community/Industry outside of OCLC through writing, speaking, and networking

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a Computer Science-related discipline required and 8+ years of software development and analytics architecture experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading a data or analytics initiatives spanning 6 months or more that significantly improved business performance, including full scale Data Lake implementations and conversions
  • Ability to work productively as a Contributor in any Data Job, including Data Analysis, Data Engineering, and Data Science
  • Experience with data access and security techniques, both inside and outside of a data warehouse
  • Experience creating data pipelines in support of near real-time event stream processing
  • Proactive in researching issues and getting clarifications on requirements
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills: regularly achieve consensus across the organization
  • Recognized in the industry as a result of publications, seminars, presentations, or equivalent
