Associate Director, Analytics Engineering

About the Role
As the Associate Director of Analytics Engineering you will define and execute on the multi-year technical vision and evolution of our analytics platform, including the data transformation infrastructure and downstream semantic layer systems. You will leverage your industry knowledge and experience to influence engineers and other leaders in Oscar’s young-but-active Analytics Engineering community.
Analytics Engineers of all levels exhibit a deep respect for the role of Data Governance and the need for fit-for-purpose data that empower end users to answer their own questions.
You will report to a Senior Director, Data Science.

If you live within commutable distance to our New York City office ( in Hudson Square), our Tempe office (off the 101 at University Ave), or our Los Angeles office (in Marina Del Rey), you will be expected to come into the office at least two days each week. Otherwise, this is a remote / work-from-home role.

Pay Transparency
The base pay for this role is: $174,400 - $228,900 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar's unlimited vacation program, company equity grants and annual performance bonuses.
You must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Oscar will not sponsor applicants for this role.
Responsibilities
- Serve as an expert in Oscar's analytics technologies and tools, drive their continuous improvement, and influence the long term vision for Oscar's analytics ecosystem.
- Leverage industry knowledge and experience to influence other Technology leaders to advance standards, guidelines and best practices for engineering and analytics development.
- Serve as the subject matter expert of a broad content or infrastructure domain, lead the planning, execution and release of complex technical or data transformation projects across multiple data transformation and/or downstream semantic layer systems or domains.
- Lead cross-functional long term projects, and influence the multi-year strategic roadmap, with a focus on optimizing and scaling the analytics tech stack and data transformation solutions, ensuring its efficiency and effectiveness in meeting business needs.
- Ensure the analytics platform and related systems are administered according to industry standards, internal controls are followed, and processes are aligned with established Data Governance principles.
- Identify opportunities and implement solutions to enhance the efficiency of existing data transformations and semantic layer systems throughout Oscar, with a focus on speed, cost-effectiveness, and stability.
- Expand the coverage of data quality checks and enhance monitoring and alerting pipelines to ensure the reliability and accuracy of analytics outputs.
- Champion Oscar's culture and values, mentor junior team members, cultivate a culture of excellence in analytics engineering and foster continuous skill development.
- Manage a team of Analytics Engineers, and direct their work as appropriate for their level.
- Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- 6+ years of experience working with a variety of database languages, including SQL, DDL and DML with demonstrated ability to efficiently transform data and databases.
- 5+ years of experience developing in a semantic modeling language (e.g. LookML).
- 5+ years of experience developing within a modern data transformation tool like DBT.
- 5+ years of experience with cloud database tools (GCP, AWS, Azure).
- 3+ years of experience working with and presenting to non-technical stakeholders.
Bonus Points
- Experience integrating DBT and Looker (or equivalent ETL-to-BI integration).
- Experience working with healthcare data, analytics and reporting.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform.
- A background in healthcare and/or insurance.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, as demonstrated by experience on multiple projects or initiatives requiring communication between technical and non-technical users.
