The Analytics Engineer will be a member of a dynamic team focused on developing and building the next generation of Analytics/Business Intelligence tools and technology for the InsurTech space. This role will work at the intersection of data engineering, data analytics, data science and data architecture, and will be directly working with business leaders and analysts across the organization including Product, Marketing, Finance and Analytics/Underwriting.
As an Analytics Engineer, you will be a “go-to” data expert who is responsible for driving data visualization improvements, building data marts, and implementing data quality checks and balances to achieve 0%% data downtime. You will be accountable for a wide range of Pie’s analytical needs, and work closely with stakeholders (engineering and business leadership) to deeply understand the business problems and to prioritize, formulate, and act on business opportunities.
How You’ll Do It
- Join a hardworking team of analytics engineers and build an environment underpinned by Pie’s values and the team competency framework.
- Work with stakeholders to build logical data models that increase end user analytical capabilities.
- Collaborate closely with data engineers and analysts to provide best in class actionable insights.
- Collaborate with leaders/members in data engineering, engineering, product management, and business stakeholders on roadmap, strategy, coordinating dependencies, establishing clear requirements to effectively meet delivery and quality commitments.
- Continuously learn about the industry trends and up-level organizational knowledge in data-related fields.
- Articulate project goals, deliverables and timelines for dashboards and data infrastructure.
The Right Stuff
- BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Operations Research, Math, or related fields is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive overall engineering experience, or equivalent in data warehousing or other analytical roles. Competent at writing SQL which is easy to understand, simple to troubleshoot, and is highly performant.
- Experience developing BI reports and dashboard solutions using various platforms (e.g., Looker, MicroStrategy, Tableau, etc.).
- Must be a Data Explorer using BI tools daily to create and curate content, as well as prior experience with data visualization and building reports.
- Experience with logical layer data modeling for self-serve BI tools.
- Working knowledge with Cloud-based data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) and Data Warehouse schemas (Data Vault, 3NF model, Kimball Star Schema, and Dimensional model)
- Knowledge of data engineering concepts: data schemas, blob storage, relational databases, ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Comfortable adopting software engineering best practices to analytics in areas such as version control and using Git.
- Knowledge of modern CI/CD concepts (continuous integration and delivery, project management and reporting tools, Gitlab, CI/CD tools, Jira, Confluence, etc.).
- A passion for correctness with off-the-chart problem solving and analytical skills.
- Preferred Experience
- Experience in a fast paced technology start-up
- Experience with Looker and LookML development
- An understanding of the insurance industry and products
- Knowledge of another programming language e.g. Python
Compensation Range for position: $125,000 - $170,000

Location Information
Unless otherwise specified, this role has the option to be hybrid or remote. Hybrid work locations provide team members with the flexibility of working partially from our Denver or DC office and from home. Remote team members must live and work in the United States (territories excluded), and have access to reliable, high-speed internet.
