Senior Analytics Engineer
Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join our team as a Senior Analytics Engineer!
About the role
As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you will work closely with data analysts, data scientists, and other analytics engineers to provide clean, accurate datasets for use by the team and business stakeholders. You will report into the Analytics Engineering capability team but work day-to-day with the Retirement Analytics team, which is focused on delivering analytics-based actionable insights and solutions to the Retirement Division to optimize both the top and bottom line while continuously improving the quality of services and offerings to customers and partners.
What you will do
- Modernize existing reporting infrastructure of Retirement Operations following data analytics best practices
- Design, build, and deploy data models that support multiple analytics use cases across the Retirement division
- Build foundational knowledge of Retirement products, workflows, and business context to anticipate future analytics opportunities
- Be an active member of the analytics engineering community, contributing learnings via writing, participating in meetups, and helping to train others

- Salary Range: $95k- 159k plus eligibility for annual bonus program
Your experience and skills
- You have experience working with data and have an aptitude for learning new data tools
- You are proficient at writing SQL for analytics and know the difference between SQL that works and SQL that is understandable and performant
- You can partner with other team members and business stakeholders to develop solutions
- You have clear written communication and like to read and write documentation
- You are good at summarizing and expressing a large volume of data into relevant big picture visualizations which capture the essence of the information
- You are curious and interested in solving problems, improving processes, and learning new skills
Preferred industry and specialty experience
- Experience using dbt to manage defining and deploying data models
- Experience using Python to work with data and to automate processes
- Understanding of data warehousing concepts
- Understanding and prior experience with visualization software such as Power BI
