About the role

To advance Understood’s mission and further our impact, we are hiring a Senior Analytics Engineer who will be a member of the Data Operations team and will report to the Lead, Data Operations. The Data Operations team bridges the gap between data creation and data analysis by evaluating stakeholders’ user stories, building data product requirements, designing data architecture, transforming data, and crafting data products.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing new data products, maintaining existing data products, and supporting the data pipeline that feeds them.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with data engineering, analysts, product, and other stakeholders to organize and define data requirements and setting up the architecture to deliver on them
  • Build production-quality code and maintain dbt data models to prepare data and metrics for end user analysis
  • Conduct data quality testing on ad-hoc requests for web and mobile data events
  • Triage and perform root cause analysis on automated data quality alerts generated by Monte Carlo
  • Apply software engineering best practices (e.g., code review, testing, version control, documentation) when developing data models to ensure data quality and standardization across pipelines and BI tools
  • Build and maintain Looker dashboards, including translating end user feedback into dashboard updates

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in math, statistics, economics, computer science, or engineering preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with data architecture development
  • Experience in data visualization development
  • Highly proficient in SQL
  • Intermediate skill level in Looker and dbt
  • Experience with Snowflake, Monte Carlo, Snowplow, and Python a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 3-5 years of experience in data roles, with experience working in the Modern Data Stack
  • Strong problem solving and systems thinking skills
  • Comfort with translating abstract problems into discrete technology action items
  • Ability to diagram complex technical processes, preferably with UML
  • Ability to give constructive feedback to team members as a part of code reviews
  • Comfort with explaining complex data concepts to non-technology end users in a way that is actionable

The base salary range for this role is minimum $110,000.00 - $140,000.00 maximum, depending on years of experience and qualifications. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that supports our team member's and our family's wellness.
