Data is at the center of everything Capital One does. This role will use deep SQL and data-transformation expertise to extract, model, and transform large, complex datasets for the Strategy & Analytics team and its broader group of data consumers. The manager will apply a strong understanding of database structures, data warehousing, query profiling, optimization, data modeling, and governance to build trusted data, metrics, and insights.
Responsibilities
- Own the transformation layer and design data cubes, warehouses, and other data models that serve analysts and other data consumers.
- Define, manage, and implement the analytics engineering and infrastructure roadmap.
- Improve data models, infrastructure, dashboards, and self-service interfaces by partnering with stakeholders to understand their analytical needs.
- Build quality metadata and data discovery through a semantic layer for both people and AI tools, including reviewing and refining AI-generated code and analysis.
- Define and enforce data-governance standards and metadata frameworks that support compliance and discoverability.
- Improve data quality and observability throughout the data lifecycle.
- Support modernization and migration from legacy reporting platforms.
- Write unit tests and participate in code reviews to ensure solutions are well designed, maintainable, and tuned for performance.
- Establish trusted metrics and a clear single source of truth that users can find and understand.
- Use analytics to shape strategy, validate data and models, improve customer experiences, and identify process and reporting improvements.
- Work with databases containing millions to billions of records and help design new production and data-storage systems.
Basic Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or another quantitative field, plus at least six years of data analytics experience; or a master's degree plus at least four years of data analytics experience.
- At least four years of professional data-analysis experience.
- At least four years of programming experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- A master's degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics discipline.
- At least seven years of professional data-analysis experience.
- At least four years of experience with Python, R, Spark, or SQL.
- At least one year of people-management experience.
- At least one year of project-management experience.
- At least one year of Tableau experience.
- Experience developing with AWS services.
Capital One may sponsor a qualified applicant for employment authorization. The listed annual salary ranges are $164,800–$188,100 in McLean, Virginia, and $179,700–$205,100 in New York, New York. The role may also receive performance-based incentive compensation and is eligible for Capital One's health, financial, and well-being benefits.
