At CarGurus, we believe data is only as powerful as the decisions it enables. CarGurus is looking for a curious, highly driven Data Analytics Engineer Intern who is eager to learn how to clean, efficient data models to drive business outcomes.

In this role, you will gain experience at the intersection of analytics, engineering, and business strategy. You will work alongside senior engineers and data analysts to deliver trusted insights that enable smarter decisions across the business. You will be encouraged to grow your engineering skills, contribute to shared data infrastructure, and develop an ownership mindset as we build the future of data at CarGurus.

As a Data Analytics Engineer Intern, you will join an 11-week Summer Internship Program designed to give you hands-on experience, expand your professional network, and build core industry skills. This full-time opportunity (40 hours per week) runs from June through August 2027. CarGurus operates on a hybrid working model, and candidates should expect to work out of our Boston, MA office 60% of the time (approximately three days per week).

What you'll do

  • Build and maintain: Assist in designing and building data products (scalable, reliable data models) using tools such as dbt, Snowflake, and Omni.
  • Code quality: Write modular SQL and Python code using version control, and participate in code reviews.
  • Data quality: Support efforts to improve data infrastructure, testing, documentation, and data reliability.
  • Collaborate: Partner with data analysts and senior engineers to understand business questions and translate them into structured data solutions.
  • Learn and grow: Learn analytics-engineering best practices, modeling patterns, and code hygiene from experienced teammates.
  • Innovate: Identify opportunities to automate, simplify, and improve team efficiency using CarGurus’ AI data platform.

What you'll bring

  • Education/background: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field.
  • SQL foundation: Experience writing SQL through coursework, projects, or prior internships; familiarity with joins and performant queries.
  • Problem-solving mindset: Curious and analytical, with an interest in understanding business problems and creating useful solutions—not just writing queries.
  • Communication and collaboration: A clear communicator and collaborative teammate who can work independently and contribute positively to team culture.
  • Work style: Detail-oriented, highly driven, and comfortable moving quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Projects or prior internship experience are a plus, but not required.
